Tracy Scott's sculptures sit at the intersection of art, nature and science. For 25 years, his work as a commercial diver involved close contact with marine creatures such as sea lions, seals, sharks, octopus and many other sea creatures which became subjects for his work. Raised in Port Hardy, Tracy has always drawn inspiration from the abundant wild spaces of Vancouver Island, on the water, in the water and deep within the rain forest. His source material is often crude discards rescued from the burn piles of local loggers. Where we see a rotten stump or a gnarly burl, Tracy sees endless possibilities. A keen student of the natural world, Tracy uncovers the ultimate potential of each piece, arresting the natural decomposition to highlight dazzling natural hues and grains.
